Another of the small stones I picked up in early 2005, an Australian opalized shell. The translucence and fire of these opals fascinates me. I select stones that are polished front and back, so that if the setting flips over the pendant will still be interesting to look at. Scroll down to see the progress I'm making on a setting for this stone.

My first attempt at a bezel for this one was a failure, technically, since it turned out to be too large for the stone. Still, "failure" might be too harsh a word... take a look, you'll get an idea of how small the stone is, from the fact that this bezel is too big for it. I rounded it out again from its oval shape and turned it into a baby ring.
