Another of the small stones I picked up in early 2005, an Australian opalized shell. The translucence and fire of these opals fascinates me. I select stones that are polished front and back, so that if the setting flips over the pendant will still be interesting to look at. My first attempt at a bezel for this one was a failure, technically, since it turned out to be too large for the stone. Still, "failure" might be too harsh a word... take a look, you'll get an idea of how small the stone is, from the fact that this bezel is too big for it. I rounded it out again from its oval shape and turned it into a baby ring.
